Spanish Relay

Maryland Relay makes it easy for Spanish-speaking Relay users and standard telephone users to communicate by phone with Spanish Relay, which includes both Spanish-to-Spanish and Spanish-to-English service.

Call Anywhere in the U.S.

Simply dial 7-1-1 or the Spanish Relay direct access number, 800-877-1264, to initiate a call with a Spanish-speaking Maryland Relay Operator. Calls can be placed anywhere in the U.S., including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. (Long distance charges apply. See the list of current long distance carriers available through Maryland Relay.)

Apply for Assistive Equipment Provided by the State

Assistive telecommunications devices are available through the Maryland Accessible Telecommunications (MAT) program for qualified Maryland residents. Learn more about the MAT program.

Speech-to-Speech

Maryland Relay’s Speech-to-Speech (STS) service helps people with speech difficulties make phone calls. It is free and available to anyone who can hear clearly but has trouble being understood due to conditions like stroke, Parkinson’s, stuttering, or cerebral palsy.

How It Works

1. You talk using your own voice or a speech device.
2. A trained operator listens and repeats your words to the other person as needed.
3. You hear the other person’s response directly.

How to Make a Call

1. Dial 711 or 800-785-5630.
2. Ask the operator for an STS call and give them the phone number you want to reach.
3. Tell the operator how much help you want (for example, repeating everything you say or only when you ask for help).
