MD High Tech Assistive Tech Reuse Center

The Maryland High-Tech Assistive Technology Reuse Center (MATR) is the state's high-tech AT reuse center. We take in donations of assistive technology, clean, refurbish, repair and donate them back out to Marylanders with disabilities in need.

Reuse: Facebook Exchange

The Equipment Exchange Facebook Page serves as a consumer-to-consumer platform for selling, buying, or donating gently used durable medical equipment, assistive technology, or other disability-related items. Although MDTAP hosts this page, we cannot guarantee the quality of items posted or exchanged. 

Financial Loans

AT Low-Interest Financial Loan Program

The AT Low- Interest Financial Loan Program provides low-interest, flexible loans ($500 to $70,000) to help Marylanders with disabilities buy independence-boosting technology and equipment.

Highlights

  • Borrow Limits: Unsecured AT up to $10,000 | Unsecured home/vehicle mods up to $20,000 | Vehicles up to $40,000 | Adapted vehicles up to $70,000
  • Perks: Below-market, fixed interest rates with lenient lending criteria compared to traditional banks.
  • Eligible Gear: Vehicles & home mods, wheelchairs, vision/hearing aids, computers, Braille, and augmentative communication devices.

Who Can Apply

Any Maryland resident with a disability, or family members/friends purchasing AT on their behalf. Approval depends on income, debt, and payment history.

3D Printing

3D Printing Catalogue

MDTAP hosts a small 3D Printing lab, utilized to fabricate an array of low-tech Assistive Devices which Marylanders with disabilities can request to receive free of charge. View our 3D AT Catalogue and Request Form, or reach out to us directly with any questions at [email protected].

UMBC Partnership

We have established an ongoing partnership with the UMBC 3D Printing lab, collaborating on device fabrication, training and building towards increased capability. The possibilities are endless!

Device Customization

Though we are new to 3D modeling and customization, we are open to working with you to ensure your device best suit your needs. If you would like a modification from the model listed in the request form, please let us know and we’ll do our best to make it happen!

Makers Making Change

Many of the models that we print come from this organization. They have volunteers across the US and Canada that may be able to print things for you. You might be asked to contribute to shipping costs when utilizing them.

AT Assessments

COMING SOON! 

Assistive Technology (AT) assessments and training, provided as a fee-for-service, identify technologies that can improve an individual’s performance, access, participation, and independence. Services include a comprehensive disability & technology clinical evaluation, an in-depth clinical report, device-specific recommendation(s), and additional training and service recommendations, as applicable.  

Device demonstrations, technology consultations, and equipment loaner services are available at no cost through the Maryland Assistive Technology Demonstration & Loan Program.

Services & Fees

Assessments

Assistive Technology Assessments are $800.00

An assessment includes an in-depth analysis to assist a person with a disability in achieving an identified task or goal. Assessments cover a 3-hour assessment and a 1-hour device overview training, which includes pre-assessment consultation, in-person AT assessment, and post-assessment documentation. A comprehensive report, including recommended assistive technology(ies) and any further training recommendations, will be provided at the culmination of the assessment.

Customized Training

Individual Trainings are $150.00 per hour.

Customized Training includes technical skill building in the use of specific assistive technology devices or software packages, tailored to meet the clients' specific assistive technology-related educational needs.

Travel

MDTAP cannot conduct in-home assessments. All in-person services are coordinated and scheduled at a specified office or library location determined by MDTAP staff.
