Statewide Portable Ramp Program

The Maryland Department of Disabilities, Assistive Technology Program has partnered with centers
for independent living across the state to make available a variety of portable ramps to consumers
who need short-term solutions for getting in and out of their homes.

  • Ramps are typically loaned for up to 120 days (4 months);
  • The portable ramp loan must be in compliance with the ADA requirements for portable ramp access;
  • The ramp borrower must arrange to pick up the ramp from the local CIL and coordinate the return of the ramp at the duration of the loan.

Community Auto Program

**MDTAP is currently seeking donations of working, adapted vehicles. To donate a vehicle, contact [email protected]. If you are interested in receiving a used, adapted vehicle, you may add your name to the wait list by emailing [email protected].**

On October 1, 2025, MDOD began implementing the Adapted Vehicle Access Pilot Program, which will operate until September 30, 2030.   

Branded as the Community Auto Program (CAP), CAP facilitates the donation of working, adapted vehicles to eligible individuals who do not qualify for other programs or financing to purchase adapted vehicles. 

To qualify, the recipient must: 

  1. Be an individual with a disability who uses a mobility aid;
  2. Be the vehicle's primary driver; 
  3. Possess a valid driver's license with appropriate adaptation restrictions;
  4. Or possess a current (last 12 months) prescription for vehicle modifications;
  5. Must have been turned down for a financial loan through the AT Financial Loan Program within the MD Department of Disabilities OR voluntarily self disqualify by not applying to the AT Financial Loan Program
